1st Day back to work

After the Long Hari Raya weekend, I cldnt wait to get back to work! Why? Can’t wait to EAT! No more hiding under the desk to get some food into the mouth! hah

I was ALL SMILES when i reached the office and went to the shop across the street to get Bfast.

I was ALL SMILES when i gave out Crispy Crinkles i bought from The Cookie Workshop (Oops their website is turned off) to my colleagues saying, “Hari Raya Cookies, would you like to have some?”

I was ALL SMILES when two of my colleagues wishes me Selamat Hari Raya. Oh How thoughtful!

I was practically GLOWING, walking on air. All because of … Food! hahahaha

Another thing that made my day was after 6 long months, i FINALLY managed to catch TWO movies at the cinema with Ash. I even took half day afternoon to go there!

i_love_you_beth_cooper

I LOve you Beth Cooper SUCKS. It was very slow. It was sooo depressingly slow, even Malaysian dramas look more interesting! But i was THAT deprived i didn’t mind.

moon-movie-poster

Now MOON is a very interesting, intriguing one. About a Man stuck on the job faraway on the moon All alone. At first, i was afraid it might be boring if there’s only ONE cast and no dialogues? I was mistaken. My heart was racing wanting to know what’s next what’s next!

Thank you to Ash who got those tickets free for us.

Down side: Amidst the chaos, the staff who was supposed to store my EBM (Expressed Breast Milk) and some frozen nutella rolls into their fridge just stashed it in the cupboard! By the time we were finished with the movies, 300ml worth of milk went bad! I felt murderous going home.

Love Matters the movie

Ash and I went to catch a local movie.

It’s been a long time since we went out. She’s been very busy working!

Managed NOT to buy any popcorn nor nachos. Thank god. Monday’s crowd is good. as in no long Qs. And the movie started screening since a few weeks ago which meant we didnt need to book online to secure good seats. And because we paid by nets it was only $6 per ticket as opposed to $10 on weekends.

We were 10min late. And after 10min, Ash said, “So far im bored.” To me i was still ok… Mostly when i start a movie, i am always determined to finish watching it no matter how boring it is. Because i know it will haunt me later thinking, “So what happened in the end?” You wont catch me sleeping in a movie. Well… except for LOTR the first. LOL. Strange since i enjoyed reading the book!

In any case, i cried a few times in this movie. I felt so connected with it. I wish i was as strong as the leading female character to state what I feel clearly. Sighh…

However, dont be fooled… this movie is really very funny. Nonetheless the moral of the story remained clear and strong – a trademark of Jack Neo.

For $6, totally worth it.

Usman’s Place and Ghajini

10/01/09

First Stop: Dinner at Usman’s Place @ Bussorah Street.

I think the name is sooooo not compatible to the settings. See… their first branch is called Usman Restaurant but it is more like a run down open air coffee shop at Lil India. But this is a high class, chic restaurant but they just simply call it Usman’s Place.

The interior is somewhat authentic to Paki taste, i think. That is what i gather from Wana’s pictures from Karachi restaurants anyway. Afraid i dont have much picture to speak of. But this is what we had:

Paki style Something Chicken w Fried Rice.

Shami Kebab.

I wasn’t feeling so hungry hence just the light Shami Kebab but BOY WAS IT HOT!!
No Main dishes below $10. But a good place to impress lah right.
I did a naughty thing afterwards. I bought donuts! Half a dozen at that! But just ate 2. Hafta control.
We made it just nice for Ghajini, Aamir Khan’s latest movie, at 8:20pm.
Ok tell me who’s not going to melt looking at this … this… Perfection Personified?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!
How come he seems to look younger and not older?

So funny… my baby was kicking me thru all the upbeat theme song! So much so that i just couldnt concentrate watching Aamir’s extremely well crafted physique during that lovely song. LOL What can i say? Thank God he’s not a sappy love song kinda guy.

The movie? The beginning was a tad slow. I very much prefer the happy flashbacks then the teary and dangerous Current time.

I dont know whether the gruesome parts have been censored or that’s exactly how Aamir wanted it. Just as well for me. For i could have either screamed or thrown up if i’ve seen the “real” pokes and wat nots.

Good show, nonetheless. It’s Aamir Khan, what.

Yes Man & The funniest Thing EVER!!

Watched it last night with Ash and my friend, Lina @ GV Yishun. Gosh that place is like sooo old now.

Speaking of which… Don’t you think he suddenly AGED like nobody’s business??

Despite that, he could really still pull faces like he always has.

The movie is light hearted without being too overly romantic which is good for the mood im in right now. BUT the heroine might very well be his daughter!

There was this one scene where they shouted “SURPRISEEEEE”. SUddenly i got a hard kick from the tummy. Oh my poor baby got shocked! So funny!

But No no no that is not the funniest thing ever to happen in my life.

In the train ride home, just 1 station shy from our stop, an apek (chinese uncle) looking man marched swiftly past me and threw a small crumpled paper at me. My first reaction was that of bewilderment, “OMG! How dare he the litterbug!”

Second reaction was, “What if there’s a msg?” Like as though we were still in secondary school… *roll eyes* At my sis’ insistance, we open up this pink coloured paper and………..

(Just as well that its blurry to protect his hm… privacy?)

True enough! A name and number was written down!!

Both me and Ash were like giggling and giggling. Like EYEWWWWWW … I didnt know i still had it in me to be… hmm…. attractive? LOL But i insisted that he wrongly aimed at me when he actually intended to shoot at my sis who’s obviously the fairer of us :P I mean… Didn’t he even see my 7 months bump???????

Movie Disaster

It was close to 5:30pm when Ash and I decided to watch a movie. So i booked the tickets online.

It was as though a force was stopping me from buying the tickets because i keyed in my debit card details TWICE but the site told me the card has expired. That was impossible cos i just used it the day before. So i tried another card and it returned the same thing! I was sooo puzzled.

I then suddenly realised that in my haste, i entered the wrong exp date. I dont know what came over me. I Finally got all the card details right. But i still didnt feel good (rasa tak sedap) about something. Felt like something is still wrong, like i moved thru the site so fast. I gave it a once over and tot it was correct. Bedtime Stories, 2 tickets, 7:40pm.

Now it was 7:30pm. Ash called me to come out. I rushed and rushed and rushed like mad to walk over to Causeway POint. It was already 7:45pm when i collected my tickets. Only to be told, “YOUR TICKET IS FOR TMRW!!!!!!!!!”

OH.MY.GOD.

I can’t believe it! The one thing that i didnt check was the DATE of the movie. I suppose i felt something was awry when the ticket i bought cost $10 each when it’s actually a weekday night. I dismissed it thinking maybe cos its a sneak preview.

Then i recalled that i saw only one day of show timing for this movie and it said WED. I clearly saw it was WED. But what selenger me didn’t realise was, Yesterday was NOT WED… it was TUESDAY! SELENGENYE JULISSAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

Thank God Ash wasn’t mad. But that is only bcos she hasnt paid for it!!! Humph :P

So i frantically sent out an sms to 5 or 6 of my contacts whom i tot might be interested and convenient for them to go to Causeway Point to buy my tickets as both me and Ash cldnt make it for that date. Nobody replied.

Luckily Ash gave me an idea. Before my class at 7:30pm, I can go to the ticket counter and approach pple to buy my tickets. Definitely they’re there to buy one and as exp has it, Pple who Q to buy tickets will get very lousy seats and mine was 2nd row from the back. Surely somebody would want it.

However, very fortunately, im on half day on Xmas eve, so i decided to try my luck and ask my student if i can come over in the afternoon. This morning she replied me with a positive!

In a way, im relieved that i dont hafta approach strangers and “sell” my tickets. On the other hand, i’m $21 poorer instead of just $10.50 if i were to share with Ash. Oh well. that’s the price to pay for not checking your work!

City of Ember

Wow. It’s been a long time since ive been to a cinema with Zubair watching an ENGLISH movie.

Upon reading the synopsis and seeing the trailer, i promised Z that it would be an adventure genre which he will like, as he did with Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

While i like Period Dramas…

And had a whole new world in this movie..

I found that it was a bit slow at times not even a background music thingy. Dull.
The story and/or plot is nice though. Creative and original. But might not make sense for those who like to scrutinize the scientific details.
Even sitting comfortably in the cinema, watching them live in an underground world without having seen light made me feel suffocated and claustrophobic. Yikeness!

Journey to the Center of The Earth

was awesome!!!!

Both me and Zubair enjoyed it very much! Even better than Mummy 3. and compensated a lot for that wasted Dark Night.

Ok… it might not be soo believable, and the computer animation of some shots are rather obvious but the sense of adventure and cheap thrill were in abundance! I was squirming, shrieking my head off and clutching Z’s pants most of the time. So much so that Z had to shush me so many times saying, “Why are you screaming? Nobody else is screaming lah. Just relax.”

During that scene at the beach, i cried. Zubair laughed at me, “This is just fiction lah.” My type of person, i like to connect with the movie, feel what the character feels. That’s why im so jumpy and weepy.

I need to unearth the book i have in some box i think. That is if we havent given it away.

I suspect there might be a sequel: Atlantis! Yes! Im soooooooo looking forward to it already!

PS: Brendan Fraser is getting old.

The Dark Knight

After the success of watching Mummy 3 with Zubair the week before, i thought its a good time to get him to watch more English movies. Besides, there’s no interesting Hindi movie showing on screen anyways. So i asked Kak Long’s opinion and she totally rooted for The Dark Knight.

So Fri night we went to catch it at AMK Hub.

And we both got bored out of our wits!!!

Firstly the movie was too long. And the plot is just too complicated even for me. what more for him! And i soooo hate the Joker’s face. But worse is the Two Face. I really had to cover the screen with my hand so as not to see the burnt part. PUKE

I hope he wont get turned off by English movies now.

But last night i caught Love Guru and it was sooo slapstick fun! But hey… NOTHING and i repeat NOTHING can beat Kung Fu Panda ok. That one sure laugh non stop.

Kismat Konnection

So we went to watch this at Jade on Sat 10:30pm!!

The moment Zubair saw me at the arranged venue, he said, “Before we start our date, i want you to promise not to argue with me for the whole of tonight. We always end up arguing when we go to Jade.”

The movie? It was ok i guess… but nothing, nothing can beat Khuda Ke Liye in my eye.

At first i thought Shahid Kapoor is such a looker… But at times, he looked so…. ordinary… So my infatuation didnt actually set in.

Now this new lady actress is rather cute in a very simple, clean way. I despise those who wear short skirts and display their top half playing their sexual cards to get to the top, but not this girl. At least, not in this movie. Her short hair is also something i find refreshing.

Movie finished at 1:30am. I groaned at the thought of walking all the way to Orchard. AGAIN! So i suggested, “Hey! Wanna eat satay at Lau Pa Sat?” And Boy was he game for it! But a tiny bit of regret for suggesting it cos it also took some 20 – 25min walk. and then after dinner, we walked another 10min to Clarke Quay to take our bus. Oh God. Just as well that we had satay. All the fats are burnt up!

Nope no arguments at all. Alhamdulillah.
