1st Day back to work

After the Long Hari Raya weekend, I cldnt wait to get back to work! Why? Can’t wait to EAT! No more hiding under the desk to get some food into the mouth! hah

I was ALL SMILES when i reached the office and went to the shop across the street to get Bfast.

I was ALL SMILES when i gave out Crispy Crinkles i bought from The Cookie Workshop (Oops their website is turned off) to my colleagues saying, “Hari Raya Cookies, would you like to have some?”

I was ALL SMILES when two of my colleagues wishes me Selamat Hari Raya. Oh How thoughtful!

I was practically GLOWING, walking on air. All because of … Food! hahahaha

Another thing that made my day was after 6 long months, i FINALLY managed to catch TWO movies at the cinema with Ash. I even took half day afternoon to go there!

i_love_you_beth_cooper

I LOve you Beth Cooper SUCKS. It was very slow. It was sooo depressingly slow, even Malaysian dramas look more interesting! But i was THAT deprived i didn’t mind.

moon-movie-poster

Now MOON is a very interesting, intriguing one. About a Man stuck on the job faraway on the moon All alone. At first, i was afraid it might be boring if there’s only ONE cast and no dialogues? I was mistaken. My heart was racing wanting to know what’s next what’s next!

Thank you to Ash who got those tickets free for us.

Down side: Amidst the chaos, the staff who was supposed to store my EBM (Expressed Breast Milk) and some frozen nutella rolls into their fridge just stashed it in the cupboard! By the time we were finished with the movies, 300ml worth of milk went bad! I felt murderous going home.

White Heaven

This is not an advertisement but it might as well be!

I had Kinder Bueno White for the first time today!

I dont know how long they’ve had it for but it’s certainly a nice variation of the already nice chocolatey snack!

Have always been a fan of WHITE Chocolate and very much NOT into dark choc. So i welcome this new addition to my very limited list of edible chocolate. =)

While the chocolate is milkier than ever, you can still savour the distinct taste of sweet chocolate that’s sprinkled all over.

In other words, I LOVE IT!

Family BBQ @ Pasir Ris

Sunday 22/3

Ok so i made it to the BBQ. Thank God, Alhamdulillah!

In the car, on the way to Pasir Ris

Syifaa’ and her Half Jap Aunty, Baby Sarina.

A newly reunited cousin, Nigel, Half Chinese, Half M’sian.

The Cousins Gerek
Several missing in the picture tho.

Its Durian time!!!

The Tents

The BBQ Pit

The Beach Scene

What u can see across the sea.

Trying to figure out how come we haven’t caught any fish yet.

Nah… Its ok!

We found Seashell instead!

We reached there close to 1pm. But the Simei gang and the rest were there from like 9am when it was cool and cloudy. It came close to raining but suddenly after Zohr, the weather took a turn to BLAZING HOT! Yeah we got sunburnt but at least we didnt get drenched, which would have been worse cos there’s no shelter nearby.

Its been a longggggg while since we’ve BBQed at Pasir Ris Park. The normal beach we go to is East Coast. But this extended beach is very nice!! Serene and full of greeneries. Unfortunately, it lacks facilities and shops. Moreover, the carpark is like a good 5min walk away to the BBQ pits and beach!

In 7hours, I ate Nasi Lemak, Otak2, just ONE SLICE of choc cake, Goreng pisang, POpiah otak2, Fried bee hoon, just ONE PIECE of Durian (not tt its my fav anyways) and potato chips. I drank coke light, water and just teeny wee sips of fruit punch.

At one point of time, all the cuzzies went to rent out bicycles. I was soooooooo dead jlos ok! Oh well… wldnt wanna risk the baby’s life now would we? Besides, Z would kill me if i ride the bike and injure his baby. Even when i told him that the two new found young cuzzies accidentally slapped my tummy, he got all hot and angry already, “HOw dare they!” he said. LOL his over-protective is nice but out of place lah. Firstly they just tot i was FAT besides, they are KIDS.

I cldnt coax anybody else to go walking with me. So i just savoured the 5min walk x 2 to and fro the carpark. And that was all the exercise i got on that day. Cheh! I tot i’d be strolling along the beach for hours. The irritating Hub gave his classes as an excuse. Yeah yeah whatever.

Loved and savoured the attention i received from the extended family esp Nenek who shared her experience (more than 10 times i dare say!) and some tips.

One MALE Cousin kept gently poking my tummy and saying that it felt like a ball! I was trying to get them to feel the baby’s kick alllll day but his movements were very limited and tentative. Until towards the end of the day, we were sitting down quietly and slowly i got Nur to place her hand at two ends of my tummy and finally she felt the slow stretching of his feet! YAYYY Felt like a great achievement getting them to feel it! hehe

Reached home at 9pm all tired but contented. Now baby, you can come out, please.

After 38 weeks of Gestation….

… came the drama!

I called up my mum at 4:45pm yesterday, “Mummy, im going to the hospital now.”

hehe… i made her shocked / panicked for awhile.

No i wasn’t having labour pains… We were just concerned that the baby hasnt been very active ALL day!

Usually i would wake up in discomfort in the middle of the night with his kickings. He would also start jumping around when i hit the shower every morning. Too cold i guess. But yesterday morning. Na da. Zilch. nothing. Zubair came awake esp to ask me if he’s been moving bcos he also noticed that the baby wasnt active all night.

I remember the gynae from the last visit said not to take the chances and just go to the hospital to get checked. At first, I gave ourselves time till after lunch… then extended it to after work.

I consulted ‘Azma and she told me to try waking up the baby first so i started tickling him. LOL by tickling i mean scratching my tummy gently (its very itchy anyways but cant scratch hard so the skin is very thin round about there). Hmmm well yeah he DID nudge me back but after went back to sleep or… whatever the cause of the silence was.

Hairiah, on the other hand, told me to drink something sweet and then lie down on my side.

Felt a bit guilty with this thought in mind, “Could it be cause i indulged myself in a lot of sweet stuffs the previous night just before bedtime?” Cause i noticed the last time that this happened, i was eating sweet things the night before too. (Maybe ive been having a LOT of sweet stuffs lately. SHHHHHHHHHHH)

Funnily enough, during lunchtime, as we were having “coffee” at Coffee bean (no i dont drink coffee… but ordered a KIDS Sunrise with no whipped cream just as guiltily), a treat from my colleague, He was ALL action and stretches. By the time i reached back to the office, its the silence of the lamb again. Hmmmmmmmmmm

Told Zubair to get ready to go to the hospital.

On the way, ‘Azma was very kind to tell me what to expect while i’m there. I only knew that they will strap me to the heartbeat monitoring machine for about 30min to 1hr but she explained to me the 3 possible scenarios that could happen AFTERwards.

1. If everything is well, they will discharge me
2. If not so well meaning there’s some contractions or heartbeat is low, then they will transfer me to the normal ward to be admitted.
3. They will perform Vaginal Exam (thereafter known as VE) to see how many cm have i dilated (opened) to judge stage of labour.

(did i get u right, Mah? heh)

You know what happened?! the VERY moment i was asking to lie down and was strapped HE STARTED KICKING vigorously already!!! But i tot it was like a once off and waited listening to the beat myself. There were 2 or 3 times when his heart skipped a beat when he was stretching hard. Hmmmm scary.

at the 30th min or so i heard some nurse said, “Eh the Lizard went away already.” HUH?!?!??! LIZARD?!?!?!? in this CLEAN sterile Hospital?!?!?!?!? Yikes!

1hr later, the doc came and showed me the chart. It has both fetal heartbeat as well as MY contractions. No i didnt have any and the heartbeat showed a VERY ACTIVE baby. Yeah yeah when i lie down THEN he started to move!

Zubair was so cute. I didnt get to meet him before i went into this Triage Room to be monitored because he hasnt reached already and men arent allowed in. He asked me to do a video call! heheh unfortunately i think 3G technology is barred in hospitals cos we both can’t make video call.

I went out and see the anxious Papa. and reassured him everything’s fine and dandy. Paid $32.15 for this 1hr of service. Thank God. I was imagining it could hit over $100!!

The funniest part of the day? Zubair said, “Everytime i wear this white t-shirt, i attract some kind of insects. Just now there was a lizard on my tummy!” ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING!!! So this lizard came from MY, MY husband! LOL *shake head*

And now baby is making up for lost time. He’s kicking me harder than ever!

Pasta Mania’s OVERRATED

14th Feb 09

Zubair has been wanting to give me a treat @ Fish & Co. But i’ve been rejecting… delaying etc… mainly bcos the last time i ate fish & Chip, my blood sugar level hit 9.6 when it should have stayed less than 7!

Then i saw on the papers that they are serving a special VDay menu only available on 13th and 14th Feb 09. I called up the Bugis Junction outlet to make a table reservation but unfortunately they dont take bookings for these two hot nights. Queue will be EXTREMELY Long i imagine.

So we decided to try out PAsta Mania then, which has just turned HALAL.

I met Zubair @ Marriott @ 8:30pm as he was from Bukit Timah. And he said that he saw there’s a Pasta Mania at Far East Plaza and we started walking towards there.

As it turned out, it was an ALL Al fresco dining style. read: HOT!!!!!

Yummy looking menu

This is a VEry hungy Look

I got a very confused perception of this restaurant. I am not sure whether it is a fast food or a real restaurant. You see… they hand out menus at the table… We can call on the attendant for Chilli sauce or any other things but we hafta go over to the counter to place our order and pay there. Also the menu is VERY fast food like with choices of 3 diff set meals to go along w the main dishes etc etc…

And then the food came…

Zubair had Turkey Bacon Aglio
I

t was disappointing at best. The serving was SUPER Small. Granted, they allow u to “UPSIZE” ur pasta for an additional $2.20 or something. But a small portion for $10 WITHOUT drinks?

And just look at the plate… sooo dry… not much gravy at all!!

I had a Chicken Basil Pizza
(How come i look so evil? as tho i was about to attack the pizza!)

7″ $10. Hmmm the dough was crispy which is just how i like it… but to me its not like REAL pizza lah… Perhaps lacking that tomato base. PLUS, its more like a SNACK for our ravenous selves. Zubair said its nice to the taste though…

Oh well, what could we possibly do other than go in search of more nutritional supplements. To make up for the guilt of eating too much, we walked to Plaza Singapura all the way from Far East Plaza! oh well… almost. Along the way, we made window shopping stops including one at John Little. I wanted to finally buy toiletries for the baby but seeing all those things was overwhelming i just cldn’t decide what to buy. But both Z and i agreed we should get the baby carrier first as opposed to the stroller. and a nice one that can carry front and back would come up to about $120.

Along the way, we saw Swensen’s and it’d be the PERFECT venue for supper + dessert! But damn the Queue was super duper long… AT LEAST 25 tables worth. Cldn’t be bothered to Q so persevered with the walk.

At John Little, we’ve already covered 2 bus stops and decided we could not even stand anymore after close to 1hr… so took the bus and had ICE CREAM!!

At last got my TRUE waffle. I should remember that its called a BELGIAN waffle this kinda thick, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside waffle.

I managed to look evil at EVERY food shot.

Worse, not many pple managed to take a proper STILL picture of me from the new hp.

Z ordered for just plain strawberry ice cream but ended up having most of my mango sorbet. Chet! So im still left unsatisfied.

When we reached Woodlands, we had a fries snack @ BK. But still Z felt the need to go to Al-Ameen right after he sent me home. But only ended up home an hour later disappointed that Tom Yam was not available (or so he said) and whipped himself his special omelette @ 2:30am.

Should i feel guilty eating like a glutton all night long? Probably not. As we all know, on weekends and Public HOlidays, calories don’t count. *wink*

New Diet Motto

If i DO wanna eat something sweet, let it has some nutritional value like calcium for Vit C namely YAMI YOGHURT and STRAWBERRY MILK and Orange juice.

Way better than sweet nothings like HELLO PANDA and KINDER BUENO.

******************************

I’m sooooooo tired… I’ve been sleeping past midnight the whole week and this morning i started sneezing again. Told boss that im prolly seeing the doc this afternoon but see first how after lunch.

Met Z for lunch. Walked all the way to Amara for Turkish food. Then we took the cab to Capital Square to CitiBank only to be told to go to DBS and then we walked back to office.

I’m sooooooooooooo tired… But i still resisted the urge to take half day MC. After all its Fri anyways and quite relaxed atmosphere in the office (holiday mood in full swing!).

Worse. I’m having such a bad tudung day!

Im just hanging on till Ayah comes to pick me up.

have i told you i’m sooooooooo tired?

Weekend Food Disaster

Weekends are always a disaster where food is concerned. It’s either too much or too little.

Last 2 sundays, I had a Fish & Chips (and lime juice – my first ever sweet drink after ODAC) and my blood sugar level went up to an all time high of 9.6 (Reference range 5 – 7) some 2 hours later.

But last weekend, i barely ate at all!

Sat

9:30am: Bfast was plain cornflakes + 1 pear
2:30pm: Lunch of Mee Hoon Yong Tau Foo
.
.
.
.
I went to sleep right after maghrib, in anticipation of Z’s coming home wanting my assistance in the kitchen. When i woke up at 9pm, i was all ravenous having had nothing since 2:30pm. I really wanted the Kebab from bazaar but was too lazy to go. Asked my parents but had to wait till 10:30pm after a certain TV show finished then we can go out for dinner. Ayah was SUPER kind to cut me some fruits while waiting tho. THANK YOU!

10:30pm came and went with no hint of going out. Besides, i was in no mood to go out bcos hafta get dressed, travel and then WAIT for the food to be served. Scrap that. I ordered McDonalds. Although i ordered Beef Prosperity meal, i felt so guilty for wat i was about to do to my baby, i only ate the Twister Fries @ 11:30pm!! *faint*

Bcos i felt angry that Z didnt care what i eat, in the end, i didnt help him in the kitchen and went to bed instead. Teehee… Not like i cared what he ate either. Dont mind me, im just super charged hormonal right now ok.

My tummy was buzzing with emptiness, but i ignored it. Hmmm began to wonder whether its wiser to NOT eat or eat SINFUL thing? Which is the lesser of two evils?

SUN

9am: I ate the burger from last night.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Mum cooked Lontong. I already heated the gravy up to eat already but when i served a plate for myself, suddenly i felt no mood to eat. Thoughts ran between “no meat”, “sinful coconut milk”… “but lotsa vege”… I just cannot decide whether its healthy or not i didnt eat at all.

I waited for Z to finish having his “bfast” and everything first then (at 5pm) i asked for his help to buy for me the Chix Kebab w lotsa vege inside from bazaar. That’s the healthy part. The very not healthy part that i caved in for is $2 worth of Fried Banana Fritters that i ate all on my own. Bah!

That’s the undoing of skipping your meal, i tell ya~

It wasn’t a day to monitor my food, so i didnt know how much those Goreng Pisang cost me. Whatever it is, I hope you will grow well, my darling Baby.

(Nothing else for dinner)

Usman’s Place and Ghajini

10/01/09

First Stop: Dinner at Usman’s Place @ Bussorah Street.

I think the name is sooooo not compatible to the settings. See… their first branch is called Usman Restaurant but it is more like a run down open air coffee shop at Lil India. But this is a high class, chic restaurant but they just simply call it Usman’s Place.

The interior is somewhat authentic to Paki taste, i think. That is what i gather from Wana’s pictures from Karachi restaurants anyway. Afraid i dont have much picture to speak of. But this is what we had:

Paki style Something Chicken w Fried Rice.

Shami Kebab.

I wasn’t feeling so hungry hence just the light Shami Kebab but BOY WAS IT HOT!!
No Main dishes below $10. But a good place to impress lah right.
I did a naughty thing afterwards. I bought donuts! Half a dozen at that! But just ate 2. Hafta control.
We made it just nice for Ghajini, Aamir Khan’s latest movie, at 8:20pm.
Ok tell me who’s not going to melt looking at this … this… Perfection Personified?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!
How come he seems to look younger and not older?

So funny… my baby was kicking me thru all the upbeat theme song! So much so that i just couldnt concentrate watching Aamir’s extremely well crafted physique during that lovely song. LOL What can i say? Thank God he’s not a sappy love song kinda guy.

The movie? The beginning was a tad slow. I very much prefer the happy flashbacks then the teary and dangerous Current time.

I dont know whether the gruesome parts have been censored or that’s exactly how Aamir wanted it. Just as well for me. For i could have either screamed or thrown up if i’ve seen the “real” pokes and wat nots.

Good show, nonetheless. It’s Aamir Khan, what.

Pre-Bday Lunch

Sun 21/12

My parents, Ash and i went out at 12:30pm for Bday lunch @ Sakura International Buffet.

It was a guided move to just be sure and reserve a table. Bcos initially we wanted to go to the one at Admiralty, however, when i checked their website for phone number i discovered that that outlet was not halal!!! The halal ones are only at Downtown East, Clementi and Jurong West Stadium. We decided on JW.

Fortunately or unfortunately, Zubair gave priority to his music, so he wasn’t able to join. Shan’t comment on this further. But i told him to give ME a treat next time simply bcos he cldnt make it that day.

I dont know why but that day i just cldnt be bothered to pick up the hp and take pictures. Well prolly cos the batt was @ 50%, if i take pictures, it might just die soon. I tried to charge in the morning but the damn wiring in my room really irked me. I was practically slamming and tossing the cables around to unravel it. Such was the extent of my pent up anger. Ayah did take some pictures and videos but hm… havent received from him yet.

But… this is a good occasion. So im determined to enjoy it. Even tho we were late. Well not late late but just late to be able to eat MORE. Well i was nicely full by the time it finished anyways.

I had chicken satay, pizza, mushroom soup, siew mai, breaded prawn, cereal prawn, pasta salad, wedges, breaded scallop… and of course… Ice Cream! =) Ash cldn’t stop herself on those raw squid and japanese green peas or something. I didnt dare to try. I cldnt imagine how somebody could actually eat RAW seafood… esp PRAWN. real GREY uncooked prawn. Er….

My parents were then off to two wedding invitations and not wanting to be subjected to same, we made our way home first by train. Found out Jurong Point has a sequel. Jurong.2 (notice how i put the Point? haha)
