Seated & Barricaded

Fri, 11th Sept 09, 5.5 months old.

I was DYING to eat out and managed to convince the family to go to Swensen’s @ United Square after breaking fast at Masjid Abdul Hamid Kampung Pasiran.

Tufeil was so funny. He was all smiles in my lap looking at other pple eating, but the moment we put him down for prayer, he cried his lungs out! But when the speaker resonated a firm Allahu Akbar, he paused and wondered where it came from, if there were more.

He was not quite full and sleepy, the poor boy. Thank god when i nursed him in the car during the short distance to United Square, he managed to fall asleep and i ate peacefully the first 30min.

When he woke up:

Survived trip to Tanjong Katong Complex with babies! As usual, fed him in the car, by the time we put him in the stroller, he was asleep.

Ayah pushed him while i rummaged thru to find a $40 kain batik overlap to go with my $25 blouse for first day and a $75 purple Pesak Gantung suit for another day. The latter was the most ideal outfit for BF!!

Anyway, That night at home i took some pictures.

All Cushy.

All Cushy & Safe.

 Picture taken only this morning.

Pillows fashioned by Ayah. I often forget to barricade him NSEW now that he’s about to get mobile and everything.

Sighhh… he’s growing up so fast!

Little Bites of Info

Monday, 7th Sept 09 (5months, 2 weeks)

Tufeil has started sitting on his own!!! This is what i’ve been waiting for! Granted, its still wobbly and unstable. He would flail his cute arms around for balance. Sometimes he would topple over, other times he could even play with the iPod while sitting.

Mum said this is because she put him in unmoveable walker quite a bit that he knows how to work his arms for balance.

I have a 3min clip of him sitting but footage is not proper to be posted. Ahaks!

Thursday, 3rd Sept 09

Played Badminton with the Joyful One (colleague). It’s our practice session before company tournament this Thurs.

Top 8 players will represent the company! Ok i’m sooo totally not in that league. We’re playing for fun, but not anyhow whack lah.

““““““““““`

I’m tired of breaking fast at home. I WANNA GO OUT TO EAT!!!! Cafe Galilee, Please save me from eternal food boredom. Well, at least i got my pizza and Sarpino’s brownie bites yesterday. YUMMY!!! =D

““““““““““`

Fri, 4th Sept 09

Went to Yaya’s place for Iftar with the Besties. It was soo fun with so many babies around and so many varieties of food in abundance! Best part was when we left the hubbies outside in the living room to bond, while we the girls stay in the room to discuss date of our group Eid visiting!

I want to thank Ma n hub for taking your time to come to Wlands all the way from Tamp to pick up my baby! You both are a God sent!

We left at 10:30pm. Nobody was going up north, so took cab home. $22. Thank you Zi for contributing $10 even though you alighted at $6 mark.

Sat, 5th Sept 09

Iftar gathering at my mum’s paternal side of the family. I really really hesitated to come along and i should have followed that instinct. BEcause Tufeil was cranky all night.

But the alternative of breaking fast alone albeit at Cafe Galilee or somewhere nice is even more scary.

Sun, 6th Sept 09

Fun Iftar session at Simei with Mum’s maternal side. The little cousins are also there including the Japanese, Chinese and Paki mix breds. The Indian mix breds were not there though =(

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE MAK Ngah’s goreng pisang using purely ADABI’s flour mix.

I think i’ve lost the skill / interest to take photos. And i totally blame my SNAIL SLOW Sony Ericsson G705 hp.

12th Aug 09 – Date of Tufeil’s First Roll from back to tummy. 4.5months

He turned to his left. Kak Ly spotted it first while i was in the kitchen getting some water. Good thing he took quite awhile so i witnessed his first too. By the next day, he was turning more often albeit still slowly. I wasn’t able to see this as i was…………

13th Aug 09 – First leisure outing with colleagues.

I think it was my first ever outing with my colleagues at current employment. I’ve written before how i’m able to click with these new recruits very nicely. This statement is reinforced by our karaoke night last night!

It also happened to be my FIRST time going back late from work (after 1.5month).

We went to Club 7. This time the i/c is super lor soh and ngiow! = irritating. Cannot this cannot that. Please do this and that. Treated us like kids. Food was also not as good as last time. Aiyah.

I only sang English song cos i feel that i would lose my audience if i had sung in Malay cos they wont know the song. But since they outnumbered me, they sang mostly chinese songs. Nevermind, next week will be the turn for malay songs with the cuzzies, parents and BABY!!!

““““““““““““

I am always hungry nowadays. I attribute it to hurried digestion? or whatever it should be called.

Its like this. When i eat, i’m always in a rush. For eg if at home, i only get to steal a few precious minutes (say 20min?) when baby is quiet to eat, shower, clean. So i chomp my food so fast before u cld say “Sausage”. haha

Then when i’m at work, i hafta eat quickly to pump milk. I eat so fast, i barely chew the food! ok tak sampai ke tahap pelahap but u get the picture.

“““““““““““`

I’m trying to find the cause of my baby being so cranky while at home w my mum during the day.

Is it because….

  1. I didnt change the diaper in the morning? But even if i didnt change, sometimes he’s good.
  2. He’s having too little milk? I express 4 bottles, but mum gave him 3 times every 3 hours. But even when i told mum to try give him more and she gave him 200ml more, he was still cranky…
  3. Too little sleep?
  4. Missing mummy?

Then Ash was off from work tt day and noticed tt Tufeil screamed his lungs out when he got disturbed from his sleep by his the wails of his cousin. Boy do i know how fussy he gets when we disturb his sleep. But surely this doesn’t everyday to be the cause!?

Mum reported to me that yesterday Tufeil was a good boy… can play by himself on the bed and all. So what did we do differently? Everything else is still the same.

Ok mummy just called in to say she thinks its the milk! Today he’s a good boy again. Ok Julissa… just stay on top of the expressing schedule.

Baby’s First Trip!

1st – 2nd Aug 09 – 4months old

We had a wedding invitation in Malacca and so we drove up in 2 cars.

First stop was Breakfast @ Singgah Selalu. Ok that was my first time experiencing their bfast. 3 tables worth of dishes. Help yourself to the rice and amount of dishes and they’ll bill you accordingly. Nice! What excited my hunger was the goreng pisang and the delicious smell of Baulu baking!

First time being in the car seat!

Thankfully, he wasn’t cranky being belted up in the car seat. In fact, i think he was enjoying the scene. So much so that he was lulled to sleep most of the time. Mornings are easier because he’s usually asleep anyways.

Second compulsory stop was at Machap Rest & Relax for ice cream @ Baskin Robin

“My mummy so naughty won’t let me have some. So now i hafta suck my thumb!”

Also used the Surau (prayer place) @ 11am to feed Tufeil and changed him there! Gasp!

At some point, Mummy took over as pilot. If baby was not on BM, i would have driven all the way! haha

First we went to the wedding. It rained in the morning and the ground was full of mud. So didn’t bring out the stroller but wore the carrier instead. It was quite diff for me to eat so mummy and i took turns. No pictures because my hand was quite full lah and place was quite… gray and shabby. Maybe it was the rain.

Emperor hotel. Again! Arghhhhhhhh
ok its only RM130 per night but the toilet is really horrible!
After some rest, we went to Tesco for dinner. After awhile, Tufeil needed changing and this is how their changing / nursing room typically looks:

Baby Changing Room cum cleaner’s store room?!?!
Can you tell me how m i suppose to lay down my baby on hard AND wet ceramic tiles???

Not just that, it was also stuffy. So much so that when it came to feeding Tufeil, i opted for the Surau rather than the BF room!

Oh my gosh oh my gosh! I did a lot of shopping! I Soooo didn’t intend to buy any clothes at all! I only allocated RM140 to spend and i blew it all (almost) on MY clothes. NOTHING for Tufeil. He has enough already. haha.

I was so beat by the time we reached the hotel room i shared with the maid. Er…. Can see that she was sooo happy to have this chance to “travel” and shop a bit with her S$50. So much so that she did all tasks with a smile and almost willingly. HAH. I even taught her to use the camera.

Even the grandma took a dip in the pool!

DAy 2

Checking out. Why m i smiling now that vacation is almost over?

First Stop: Masjid Selat Melaka (Straits of Malacca Mosque)

From the carpark.

You will first encounter the ablution / toilet / baby changing room. Yes ceramic counter but at least they provided some rubber placemat. But Thank God Tufeil didn’t need a change since we had only just left the hotel.

The mosque is practically on the water!

Ayah noted the Arab influenced architectural design on this mosque.

2nd stop: Dataran Pahlawan – more shopping!

First thing i saw was Factory Outlet Store and i charged RM127 to my Master debit card. For that amount i got 6 articles consisting of 2 work shirts, 2 pyjama pants, and 2 t-shirts. That’s a little under S$10 apiece!

Then we went to the Heritage centre to buy souvenirs mostly Food. HAHAHA

The epicentre. with a carving or whatever u call it depicting the original Dataran.

From here, we took the beca (3-wheeled bicycle) to Equatorial hotel where the guys parked the car. It’s actually RM10 per vehicle to circle the town for prolly 30min. But we only took a 5min ride for RM5 cos we were quite pressed for time.

My plain ride. Shared with Ayah.

Then it gets better.

and this is the Best Colourful Ride!
After that, we went back to the bride & Groom’s place to personally meet the hosts again.

Tufeil meets Tok Long Janggut. hehe
Hey Tufeil, Watcha doin’ mah boy?

Oops! Ok you caught me. I’m learning to drive!

Then we went to YB’s (Yang Berhormat or The Honorary) house to visit the Great Grandma.
3months old Kalif & 4months old Tufeil

Also to meet Tufeil’s friend. The last time we visited in Jan, both of them were still in the tummy!

We left their place at 9pm!!!! Reached Singapore a little bit after midnight.

First Overnighter w Baby Alone.

Sunday 12th July 09 (3.5months old)

4 of the 11 bestfriends have now been Mummies for a year and they took the opportunity to get together with all the other mummies and new mummies.

Aranda Country Club is the chalet that you can see from Wild Wild Wet. We got a two bedroom suite and it faces The River!!!!!!!!! I was sooo jumping with joy couldn’t wait for next day to take the rides. Unfortunately, WWW opens at 1pm, check out is at 10am, my appt @ KK at 3pm = No time.

Another thing that dropped my jaw was seeing a Thomas & Friend’s Bouncy House(??) / trampoline for the kids to jump. I LOVE THIS!! At one point, Nul and i went in with our babies… then another adult wanted to step in that’s when disaster struck! The bouncy Float became lopsided, pressed to the ground! And the kids were all deliriously screaming but my small li’l Tufeil was traumatized seeing the walls closing in on him. So after the Bounce stabilised, i quickly handed out my baby to safety. It was sooo comical. Poor Tufeil. Let’s just hope he won’t grow up a claustrophobic.

It’s nice to catch up with some of our seniors. I realised most of them gave birth around the same time as i did! Between March and April 09! So we all exchanged notes and gathered round for group feeding.

‘Azma kept praising that Tufeil is so… good, sit quietly. and i kept telling her that He’s just happy as long as somebody carries him. For example: it was already 9pm when we went bowling till past 11pm. He was being passed around in between my turns but no cry. Alhamdulillah… I just hope he stays a pleasant baby, cause i read that after 3 months, babies start to have preferences favouring some faces more than others.

Hairiah, on the other hand, thought i was confident (is tt the word u used?) bringing the baby out on my own. I dont know why but i grew up feeling guilty if i let other pple do my stuffs for me. Actually i do know why, but its embarassing to say here. haha. So like it or not, heavy or not, diff or not, i persevere.

Also, there were a few instances within the first month of baby’s birth where i was nursing baby and kept asking Z to fetch things, tissue lah, pillow lah, hp lah… until he got fed up and said, “Can’t you take yourself?” Of course at tt point of time i replied, “I can’t move what!” But upon reflection, yeah i should be more independent. Ever since then, even if i forgot to take anything, i will as best as i could, take the things with baby in one arm, the other arm stretching as far as i could in half sitting, half standing position.

As far as possible, I won’t ask the maid to handle my baby also. Like i’ve already written, i would rather wait to pass to my own family. I would also push the stroller myself. It’s something i like to do anyways since young. Simply put: Kesian (pity). Not to mention i don’t trust her. Only one time i caved in cause i was driving and the only other adult was Kak Ly but Syifaa’ was acting up.

But then again, i’m not totally independent since i get the maid to do ALL the other chores for me. I dont hafta make my bed, i dont wash the bottles, let alone the clothes. I dont even iron them. In that sense, u can consider I’m lucky.

In any case, the next day, AFTER checking out, we went to the club’s swimming pool. We had it all to ourselves! We dipped for just under an hour. After tt both ‘Affaan and Tufeil started to get cranky. 1.5months ago Tufeil needed support using Syifaa’s buoy but not anymore. Yay!!

It was a DISASTER trying to change the babies and ourselves. There was no proper place to change baby, but i managed to wash him in the sink (he’s afraid of showers – i can understand it might be painful) then put him on the ceramic tile top covered with our own towel. So scary, afraid he might wriggle and fall!

He was all nice and ready on the counter but i dont know what to do with him. I havent changed and was still wet. Cldn’t leave him to get ready. So i thought, lay him down on the buoy on the floor. I carried him with a towel between us but he still got wet and refused to be put down! So we found ourselves both feeding the babes in the changing room! Thank God there are seats!

And thankfully ‘Affaan the baby has fallen asleep on the same said counter. so we took turns looking after both babies while the other got ready. In the meantime, i had asked my parents to come fetch me.

After the whole fiasco and having to change Tufeil back to yesterday’s clothes (POOR BABY!), I cld barely carry 1 big baby bag full of wet clothes on my right shoulder, 1 big bag full of goodies from the party in my left hand, 1 inflated buoy (‘Azma helped) and 1 baby in carrier in front. Ayah came to the lobby and i dumped everything into the stroller he brought.

Phew!

Tufeil’s First Library Visit

Tuesday, 30th June 09

Just a day before i start work.

Was alone at home. By 3pm, i got bored and decided to go out to the library with Tufeil.

Put him in the stroller and i read for him a couple of books. He was quite attentive looking at the pictures.

A female security guard even stopped by our pram and said, “So Cuteee.” He was prolly the youngest reader at tt moment.

The best thing is there’s a nursing room with two cubicles and its always empty.

Fed and changed baby with ease. But the next thing, i felt extremely guilty about… i went to the loo with HIM! Since nobody was with me, i had to bring him into the cubicle as well – the handicap one. Sorry, baby. But i pulled down the shade.

Lunch time now.

Fish & Chips + Cookies & Cream Ice Blended @ Cafe Galilee in Woodlands Library. SUPERB!

My first time too

Tufeil, satiated, sat in the stroller peacefully, drinking in his unfamiliar surrounding. He looked “high” so i rocked the pram (while eating at the same time) and suddenly he fell asleep! Weee! I’m taking my OM’s advice to “train” the baby to sit in stroller very seriously. Hope he’ll continue to cooperate. Before long, perhaps i can’t even put him in the stroller at home, just like Fara =)

TWO DAYS before Work Started

Mon, 29th June 09

I bought a term life insurance policy to protect my child in case anything untoward happens to me.

But becaused i declared anemia and Gestational diabetes, i was sent for the most thorough check up. Clinic was at somewhere Tiong Bahru. Supposed to meet the agent there.

I wanted to leave Tufeil at home. Can be like a practice session for my mum to take care of both grandchildren, but i changed my mind. Let’s bring Tufeil out, instead.

So Tufeil had his first TRAIN RIDE! He fell asleep in the stroller on the way to the mrt. When we boarded, he kept being jolted awake by the irritating overhead announcement! IT was soo loud! But after 3 stops, he got used to it and slept thru.

In the afternoon, we had 2nd Immunisation @ Poly along with 3rd month development check up.

Z can’t come so i asked Mummy to accompany me and so Syifaa’ tagged along too.

Even though we reached like 15min earlier, our number was only called like 1hr later from the allocated time slot!

I thank god mummy followed us cos i wldnt, for the life of me, be able to hold my baby firmly to stop him from wriggling around. It was shot on the thighs. I can’t remember where the first shot was because i didnt look.

We had a very nice young Muslim nurse. She jabbed my baby with a Bismillah. =)

I was soo surprised there’s no payment for all subsequent jabs and doctor’s consultation. Weee Alhamdulillah

Two weeks after last check, not much diff in height and weight @ 60.5cm and 5.8kg. Nurse said that both are still one notch down the national average but head circumference is one step higher. Don’t know measurement. She was definitely stumped. She can’t say my baby is heavy anymore.

Tufeil’s First Rollover

15th Jun 09 – Just about 3months old

So i read tt we shld let the baby rest on his tummy to promote his motor skills and i did. Generally he doesn’t have a problem lying on his tummy. In fact, he sleeps sounder in that position.

However, this is his first time being on tummy while wide awake (Altho his Titi – short for Aunty Siti aka Ash was fast asleep!).

Right after i clicked STOP on my hp, he ROLLED OVER!

So i didnt actually get to capture the moment on video… but i got to see thru my own eyes and not the camera’s.

To date, he has only done it twice on his own accord. Other times, i rolled for him and he regurgitated afterwards so i stopped! haha
