2nd Day Hari Raya

Mon, 21st Sept 09

We only managed to visit ONE house! ok technically two, but the other one is just Simei so it didnt count. Nor did the calories from all their delicious cookies! =)

All late morning to early afternoon we entertained guests. and then dropped by 2nd sis’ house which is two blocks away (also not counted).

Then one of the great aunt not at home so we ended up in Pasir Ris.

While waiting for one other car to come… Camwhoring begins!

This is a traditional Indonesian shirt with prints called Batik. Parents bought it from their Jogjakarta trip a few months back. It was too big for him then and straight away i allocated it for Hari Raya. Frankly, no other suitable time to wear it again! Hee

Was also distracted by me taking his picture/video from behind that his head almost hit the hard ceramic tile floor! I had to bounce him up to catch him the second time round! *shudder!*

Thanks Ayid and Yayan for treating us to Arnold’s and Sarpino’s!! Went home at about 9pm all stuffed like a Turkey :S

First Day of Eid.

Sunday, 20th Sep. One week shy of 6months old.

Nope, did not go to the festive congregational prayer. But woke up just nice and got ready at a leisurely pace.

First house was Abg Fai’s (my bro in law) parents’.

This is what Tufeil wore:

Peach Baju Kurung

It had originally been a high collared neck but my mum, the professional seamstress, removed it and made a round neck instead and sew buttons on it instead of the removeable ones.

The only half decent picture of me with baby from my hp. Haven’t got the chance to copy from my dad’s and sis’ cameras.

While we were eating the delicious Hari Raya feasts with lots of beef lungs, the Hostess and her maid alternated carrying Tufeil. He got restless. Think its feeding time but waited till next house.

Second House: my Pak Long.

First thing I did was to go into my cousin’s room to feed. Ash accompanied me. Otherwise, she’d hafta sit alone outside anyways. hah

I got the idea to document the people who carried Tufeil thru pictures and if he cried or not. Bcos i heard that babies at 6 months might start to get fussy with strangers so i want to expose him to as many people as possible so hopefully he won’t be as shy as his mother when he grows up.

T was cranky, even in my arms. So Cousin Zack, who when we were kids scared me by putting on the flashlight from under his chin in a dark room, offered to carry him and he was taken by the elevated view of the room he was in!

As usual, met up with the Simei Gang.

We didn’t dare put him on the floor/bed for fear he would wake up! So Cousin Ee offered to carry. Though he very seldom gets to meet Tufeil, he really adores and dotes on him.

He looked very frail just a bag of bones and skin! May Allah give him peace, health and everything nice in Heaven when he goes.

Haha we have since removed Tufeil’s samping which was courtesy of his Titi (Ash) who insisted T wears one for Raya.

Last House: Nenek Mon.

Was already 8pm by the time we reached there.

First thing i did was fed and Changed Tufeil. It was nice seeing Gerald and Francesca fussed over him. They want a baby brother/sister to play with. Bless them! =D

I have a video of them playing but i think i need to PAY to be able to upload videos? Plus its taking me a long time to upload pictures individually. Not sure how to them in a batch??

Reached home at 10pm. Contented. Full. Arms aching.

Geylang & Henna Craze

Fri, 18th Sept 09. 2 more days to Eid

Ash and I drove to Geylang for last minute Hari Raya Shopping. Before that The girls, babies and I went for Ice cream first. It was already 9:30pm by the time we left Causeway Point.

Guess what ? It took us 2hours to find parking!

After exiting from Paya Lebar, I wanted to go to the HDB parking opp the new Geylang Serai Market but apparently its closed to outsiders. I was supposed to drop off something for my mum’s friend who lives there. Ergh!

So we drove straight to the industrial area and turned back via Singapore Post. Long Q. Didn’t even bother to see the carpark there and proceeded towards Lion City / Sheng Shiong, but was signalled by the traffic police to move off a different way!

Passed by the old site of my school @ Ipoh Lane and wanted to park at Haig Road housing estate but was sealed off too and was asked to turn back. So we went the back alley back to STill Road and Queued up from Eunos all the way to the Geylang Serai Market.

It was 11:30pm when we got off the car!

Bought:

  1. Green packets (empty ones of course) lol
  2. cookies for Ash’s office
  3. Singkong (Which reminds me, i still havent opened/eaten!)
  4. Tufeil’s Songkok (cap)
  5. 2 Tudungs for the maid and 2nd sis.

Lastly, did Henna @ Pak Arif’s Carpet booth. My cousin and friend were drawing.

How I Spent New Year’s Eve

The 11 bestfriends meet again.

Venue: a super nice room in Hotel Rendezvous.

Only 1 couldn’t make it. The Oz/Kiwi just came back after a 9 month stint and we, or rather i, got to meet her baby in the flesh for the first time!

Reached there at 3:30pm sent by Beloved Dad who happened to be on half day also. Weee. Thank god i’ve already taken my super late lunch in the car because the pple who brought the food came quite late, and by the time they reached, we were due to hit the pool already! (before dusk that is)

There are 4 boys amongst us altogether. All born within days of the other! But only 3 were swimming that day as the 4th one got an errand to make. or rather, his mother did. The adult swimmers were the 3 boys’ mothers and 3 preggers. Gosh we made quite a chaotic sight! So much so that the other swimmers gave up and left the pool!

From left: Affan who kept downing the chlorine water because he kept trying to bite the buoy but was seated too low some water reached his mouth. Then Zhafir the Friendly Baby followed by Husainy the Cranky Boss. Lol

Back in the room was another fuss fuss fuss… The babies had to be given priorities to change n shower cos they shouldn’t stay in wet clothes for long .. in air-con room! But the preggers were already doggedly tired, dangerously hungry and dying to go to the loo!!!

Only after everyone’s showered and ready, we started our dinner past 8pm. At the same time, one of us played a 5 min video of a sweet dedication filled with picture compilation thru out our 20yrs together! My my we laughed looking back at our selenger (blur/innocent) days.

Next up was baby photo taking session. They have two sets of similar clothes sponsored by two of us.

First set is sponsored by Our LadY Boss who just came back from Haj and bought this matching robes for the boys. So cute! Almost like cults with those pointed tip and tassel! LOL!

From left: Shauqy, Husainy, Zhafir and ‘Affan.

I think ‘Affan has potential to be a Harry Potter character in this picture!

This cute jacket set is sponsored by Shauqy’s mother.

And then we had a gift exchange session anything from $2 – $5. Interesting what came out of that bag. We had to pick a no for the “Mystery prize” and then we had to guess who’s the Mystery Giver. Some managed to guess correctly at first try! There were among others: mirror set disguised as chocolates, fleece blanket, Mphosis coin purse, Mug, a night shirt.
Me I got a lovely cutey cushion!!! Just what i wanted sey!! I’ve been meaning to buy one to prop my leg up or tummy or back. I gave a Disney notebook + Uno Princess cards that i bought hastily from the bazaar. LOL

NExt still is cake cutting ceremony. a Chocolate Banana cake from Secret Recipe. Wordings say “Hidup Sebelas Kawan” equivalent to something like 11 Best Friends forever.

The night is far from over. Another friend had also painstakingly created 11 beautiful customised Calendar card with our own names on it. And then we started writing msgs in each others cards.

The grand finale to the beautiful night is the great view of fireworks from our hotel room at the stroke of midnight! And then the husbands sent their wives home.

Sadly, only 2 of 10 who made it stayed over night in the hotel! that’s Me and The Health Executive. hehehe (Sorry.. i dont suppose u want ur name to be written here?) so the latter brought along her sister to spend the night also.

We played Boggle till 2am.

Next morning, Ordered McDonalds for Bfast and shared a cab home (bcos i can’t carry my heavy hand carry bag. Ergh)

I finally Met Her!!

Got the car to go to Geylang bazaar!!!

A bit apprehensive on the outlook of the road conditions there. Im pretty sure it’d be crowded as its Friday Night and the bazaar is on full swing but at the same time, its early Ramadhan still.

Nevertheless, very grateful mummy allowed me to take the car. I decided to park at Singpost and walk the whole stretch of Geylang.

Glad that traffic wasn’t as bad as it could get. BUT parking was bit hellish, esp when i missed the turn to go underground but went straight to the open space car park. I saw a slot and tot i was damn lucky. Just as i was reversing to a straight position i saw a handicap sign on the rearview mirror. Silly me when out again in the opp direction further inside to dead end just a few metres away. Z told me to reverse back into the slot then go out the right way.

By this time, i panicked bcos cars keep coming behind me… No other choice but to reverse straight to the back… i started slowly when i tot that the cars behind me were stationary. It was dark and scary! I cldnt depend on my rearview mirror alone cos there might be cars coming from the other side… so i had to physically turn my neck round to the back. By doing so, i got my alignment confused and distorted.. i steered a bit to the left, got scared then a bit to the right.. ARGHH i wanted to give up. Thankfully, by the time, i reached a good enough distance to turn right to the exit. Phew! I was very sure the other drivers were cursing me up and down but at least they didnt honk!

The agenda for going to the bazaar is to look for some traditional malay sweet dishes.. some kind of jelly (agar2 gudil) and to get Deng deng as well as to window shop for Z’s First Day of Eid’s outfit. Theme is Black.

We didn’t even bother to check around the stalls at Singpost. It was soo dismal. Poor them. Just under the train tracks there was somebody selling illegal cigarettes!! How i know its illegal? they were all in plastic bags, ready to move in case a police comes by! If i wasn’t in a hurry, i should have tipped off the police. I sooo hate these peddlers who are endangering the lives of pple by selling it dirt cheap cos they’ve avoided tax!

I called Fara to ask where’s her shop. She only managed to tell me that hers is near the wet market and next to Tourism Malaysia. Er.. knowing how clueless i can be with directions, i doubt i can find her shop and told her straight if we’re fated to meet, then we will..

In the meantime… there werent any good foodstuffs to buy at all! All the foods can be typically found on normal bazaars like Keropok Lekor, Burger Ramly n such. But i want kuih like kuih kochi ke… kuih lapis ke… onde2… Fuyohhh i want!! But to no avail.

When Z saw the Deng Deng stall, he said, “What is this? Is it like Bee Cheng Hiang BBQ pork?” hahaha i said yeah but this is halal meat of course and he eagerly said ok buy me some. I looked at him, are you sure? this is beef, you know. He made a face and said Ok no thank u. I bought $4 and had it all to myself.

We saw a Giant Songkok (Muslims cap) and a Giant Capal (male wooden sandals). Z even took photos of it but it looked normal in the picture bcos there wasnt any comparison. Haha next time babes.

We finally found a shop selling male Shalwar Kameezes. And i love these because they came with vests! And i like how Z chatted the salesperson up in Urdu. makes me feel like in Lahore. Ok.. more like makes me feel less guilty. Dont ask why.

I am sooo taken by how Pakistani the young man looked and talked in fluent Urdu w his father but i later heard him talking to a Malay friend in Malay just as fluent! I never tot that was possible before. To me its like you’re either Urdu speaking or Malay speaking, period.

In any case, we lingered at the shop for quite some time, talking to the owner and such. Until at one moment, i saw somebody was waving at me! One glance, i thought it was Nisa! But couldn’t be. I mean what are the odds! Then she approached me and i took closer look… Hmmm could it be my senior in school, Kak Fatimah? But why would she go all the way to approach me?

Then this lady opened her mouth, pointed to Z and said, “I recognised you first.” OK CONFIRMED it’s Nisa! (my senior wldnt recognise Z haha) then i confidently said to Z, “Darling, you know who this is not?!?!?! NISA!!!”

Haha we made that stall like our house chit chatting for some… 10min?? It was very nice lah. I told her fancy seeing her here when it’s always soooooooooooo diff to arrange a time to go out and meet. Truthfully, i had a bit of a fear meeting an internet friend for the first time. I mean would we hit it off just as we did online? For her and me, it was no problem at all!

Next to meet is Sue. Sueeeee please tell us when we can come and visit you okkkkkkkkkkkkk… now you’ve GOT to reply me since i put special mention of u in my blog entry. hehehe

So we continued exploring Geylang till the other side of Malay Village. Guess what we found? CHICKEN Deng deng!! Z was DElirious. there were even TWO Flavours to choose from: Chilli or Honey. Cldn’t decide so asked them to mix it. YUMMY i tell you. same price.

If i tot, meeting Nisa was a surprise, Meeting a 2nd friend on the same night is yet another bigger odd! When i walk, i dont normally look at pple’s faces, maybe that’s why i never meet any friends outside… tt’s why this is such a big thing for me / us.

This 2nd person we met was Rabiah who treated us to a Hindi movie some time back. But she seemed to be in a hurry and we talked for only a while.

Then i received an sms from Fara giving me her stall no. KU ###. Er… I was at GS ## cant remember what… i didnt put at hope in meeting her at all. We traced back our route to the wet market and found KU 003. Er… looks like this is the other end of the bazaar. OK let’s try to look for her…

Finally we saw one number less of hers and started walking to the stall on the other side anticipating to find her when we heard a guy calling, “Zubair! Zubair!” Sounds familiar…. Aslam! YAYYY we’ve found them!!! No wonder i cldnt find Fara, she was sitting on the floor sorting out some stuffs.

hehehe Luckily they have another staff to entertain the customers, cos we kept them in conversation for some 10 min also! It was then that i realise she wasnt selling Kuih Raya (Eid’s sweets) like she told me she would but are selling Male Shalwar kameez + vest + Shawl!! Oh no i feel so guilty. If i knew i would have bought from her. But she very nicely said, “no no its ok… anywhere also can…” PLUS her collections are WAY NICER and the shawl! the shawl!

Oh what a fun night it was! I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy to have met 3 friends!! all in one night too! :D

National Day in the Office

Actually im really not in the mood to write.

But last Fri was fantastic and pictures are in, so muster up the will and here i am.

This was a frantic, last minute planning of a gathering. We met like a month earlier to think of what to do with our National Day and couldn’t come up with anything good until at the last minute, with one week to prepare, we got 10 groups of 7 pax to sign up for:

1. Best Dressed Competition – Judging criteria includes cheer / pose.

2. Quiz – To see if you really know Singapore, which i stayed back late on Mon to compose.

3. Jigsaw Puzzle – which i stayed late on Thurs to cut.

The theme for that day is actually sporty cos we celebrated it on 080808 which coincides with the Beijing Olympics.

All Rec Club members were given Crowns to wear on that day. LOL

Nice how about half of the groups come up with more than just a simple cheer to pose for their themed attire but came up with a whole performance. (They didnt care that they were only allowed 1 min)

This group, we call the Different Channels Group. Cos the two on the right were flipping thru the TV channels when first the SQ girl came on, then “Phua Chu Kang” (on the far left) who is actually French of hawaiian origin or something to that effect! He was repeating the famous slogan of PCK “Best in Singapore, JB and some say Batam” But he made it sound so…. proper! with real English and not Singlish. so funny. *flip* Army man *flip* ChannelNews Asia.

Very nice. Very Singaporean.

This group said I love Singapore in 7 diff languages: English, French, Malay, Mandarin, Tamil, Japanese, and That “Clay Aiken” guy said it in HOKKIEN and everybody was like shrieking with happiness! lol

These are the beach girls donning the very Malay Sarungs, singing a Malay National Song i cant remember what now.

Quite a few of the teams were using the multi racial card to win. Like this one above. Most of us were surprised / shocked / confused by the right most colleague in white scarf / tudung. Did this Chinese Lady convert into Islam? Answer is No. She was just dressing up! So nice right! So is the lady on the far left. But bcos she didnt wear an “inner cap” (as in serkop), she looked like a new believer. hehe

Then, came the time for them to complete the Quiz. As game master, i was busy tabulating the scores for the best dressed, couldn’t really see them in action. There was one cock up. I dont know why some set prints NLB as the one of the acronyms that they hafta decipher instead of HDB. But i printed them all at one go. so scary one.

While they were doing the puzzle, i was going even crazier marking the quiz! Thankfully i had two other assistants to help.

One cock up on the puzzle. One of the teams got TWO pictures instead of ONE so in the end they finished last. So we had to give them extra 10 points for the added difficulty.

When the Champion team were announced, many were calling out “Kelong!” (Unfair / bribed) Well yeah their pose / cheer was the most boring ever they almost failed but bcos they are made of brains, they ACED the quiz, getting full marks that no other team could and also finished the puzzle FIRST scoring another 50.

I still cant get over the fact that i accidentally sprayed the CEO with my spray streamer. Wrong aim! Im sorry Big Boss.

CAKE CUTTING!

This 8kg cake in the shape of the Singapore flag is made of strawberry and some ice cream with super light sponge cake made from Royal, a halal bakery!

I dont know what actually made my day that day. Maybe bcos of the high interactions with other colleagues. I was just so happy!

Sigh… I wanna be happy like that day again.

Sports CARNIVAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Volunteers had to be there by 7:30am.
I was ready by 6:50am (like 40min earlier than normal weekdays) and ready to hail the cab (since its claimable) but mummy and ayah insisted on sending me. Yayyy
I intended to buy another $10 of Bee Bee snack to supplement our sweets giveaway for game stall but the provision shop nearby was still closed. There was a coffee shop next door. While i thought it was unlikely they would carry Bee Bee stocks, i just surveyed and indeed i was in luck! However, they sell at 20cents each now! So when i could have bought 100pkt worths, i only got 52pkt! but better than nothing at all!
I was the first to arrive from my dept. Then about 45min later, Amos, followed by Val then Mathieu.

Looks like the kids are all busy in the telematch. We expected the family to start patronising our stalls first while the telematch was on the roll but they spectated the event. So we went for bfast first.

There were toasts with syrup, hashbrowns and scrambled eggs, as well as muffins!

So basically the first half of the morning was slack for us. Not many pple…. just some of the volunteers kids playing the games and some of us sampling the other stalls’ games. If i were one of the children, i’d be jumping with joy with all those games that were available lah!

My Locks & Keys Station.

The locks and keys were supposed to be clipped on to a chain which should have been hung. But in the end the chain didnt come and just as well cos putting it on the table was way better. Look! the children are so small they cant even reach if we were to have hung it!

Topple the tin can station

Animals Hula Hoop Station

Paper Aeroplane station

Skip n Win Station

Unfortunately, i didnt get to see where i stand in the skipping skills.

MY FAV station! Puzzle Bubble or something.

You hafta pick up as many marbles with chopsticks in 1 min. The marbles are in that container of SOAP water. i was aiming for the Cookie Crisp mini packet so i just picked up 5 but they refused to give me any cos its supposed to be for the poor kids. At the end, they have loads to spare! Boohoohoo…

Fishing the Fish

My favourite boy! Antoine Tetard.

The name escapes me

Treasure Hunt!

Nice!

Look at the hardwork of nailing all those!

It warms my heart how the colleagues are so ingeneous at creating games out of recycled items like Boxes and egg trays and also how generous they are at buying the game set / items (there is this one stall giving out sand art pieces!! and even win some MORE prizes after you COMPLETEd ur art piece!) and lovely lovely prizes too.

By 11am, we were too busy i didnt even get to eat ANYTHING! Bcos one of my colleague went down to get food and never came back! leaving only 2 at the game stall where the action was and FOUR at the food stall! If it hadnt been so much fun, i would have cried at not getting to eat!

It was 1pm already. Prize giving time. But before that there was a tug of war between AXA’s various group CEOs along with the Guest of Honor, a minister i shan’t mention his name.

Thank god my mgr gave the green light to pack up. Most of our good prizes are gone but there were some balance left and we gave it to the marshal for the Red Team for him to distribute to his kids

By 1:30pm we left and my mgr even gave me a lift home. Phew!

Shanghai Triad VS Italian Mafia Night

Date: 18th April 08

Venue: Conrad Centennial Hotel

Theme: Shanghai Triad VS Italia Mafia

My Choice: Shanghai

I took the cab down to the hotel and reached there at 5pm promptly. Thank God that $19.40 is claimable. and Thank God 3 other regular members were there already.

Wow the place is HUGE. Ceiling not as high as Grand Copthorne’s but just nicely so. The Cocktail Area is vast too…. and guess what? They have 3 Grand pianos!!! Sheesh! Not surprised if they have another 2 hidden out of my sight that night!

We went about setting up the registration table. We had poker cards for pple to write down their names and HP no to get to the Lucky Draw. I was in charge of the VIP registration, while there were “Shanghai” and “Italian” tables. It was 6pm already but not many pple have come yet, so we are encouraged to use the 3 pre-dinner activities before the crowd hit us.

There were: Body & Face Painting, Instant Tattoos and Instant Glamour Shot.

I wanted to do the Body & Face Painting but it will stick for 3 days so i hafta choose the location carefully ie not the body parts for ablution. But then there were more and more guys walking about so i had to abandon my plan.

Aah .. instant tattoos… They were nice but i wasn’t able to figure out how to apply them stickers!

Of course then, i went for the Glamour Shot. I was their first customer! For the Whole night, i only took one shot. Don’t know with who else to take since my dept pple havent arrived yet.

That’s a Cheongsam i’m wearing. But can’t see clearly lah. My head looks like a turtle’s peering out of its shell!! LOL. Most of the Mafia gang were wearing black and they said the black background didn’t do justice on their outfits! True.

Manning the VIP registration table has its hazards. I drank almost 3 glasses of COLD Drink and ate LOTSA peanuts. LOL! 2 years in the company, but still can’t quite remember the faces of certain internal VIPs, Don’t even know a single external ones.

That’s our stage

Our host was Adam. The events company we hired is great. Well they HAD to be considering we spent almost 6k on them! Dinner per table is priced at SGD 600+ for 10 pax. Oh and this year, they actually serve individually so the Muslims or vegetarian and sit anywhere as long as there are 10 of the regular meal-ers on the table. And so i took the opportunity to sit with my RecClub members.

Food is soooooooooo fantabulous!!!! That’s the first course of finger food: chicken satay, samosa and prawn + mango salad. DIVINE!

Then there was the soup course. Thank god it wasn’t mutton soup! It was some shark fin soup with Scallop! Vege course: stir fried broccoli with scallop again. There were Fish, prawn kebab, Chicken in Lemak gravy and finally bee hoon goreng. Oh not to forget this curious dessert with aloe vera, jelly and the biji selasih otherwise known as tadpoles! (LOL) It was the first time i ventured to tasting something as exotic as aloe vera. haha yeah that’s my exotic level of gastronomical taste.

The Dinner was sprinkled with lotsa games! No point writing them down specifically. But the theme for the whole night was to see who’s the better team: Shanghai or Italians! Even our two bosses picked a side!

There was a Face Changer performance all the way from China. But his masks were so scary i didn’t dare to look right at his face. But not wanting to attract attention by not watching him, i resorted to looking at his robe. *shudder*

Then there was the Best Dressed Gang (read: Table) award. 4 tables were nominated 2 from Shanghai, 2 from Italian. They hafta perform a short skit or something and the rest of us shall vote with loudest cheers.

That’s my Dept table, all dressed up with Cheongsams doing their Chicky Dance. So funny, the song was so long and they had to do it again and again but they endured it all. And to a great end too. I shrieked so loud for them lah! And it felt good too to let out all those negative energies! Haha but afterwards, i felt dizzy and HOT (prolly blushing cos so crazy).

The D&D finished by 30min later every year! 2006 finished at 11, 2007 11:30pm and last fri it finished at 12midnight! No it wasn’t even finished yet. That’s just when the Bonus prize was drawn. The emcee wanted us to “dance” first. Yeah yeah whatever. All my fellow kakak2 (sisters usually referring to Malay/Muslims sisters) went back already.

Now about the Lucky Draw. 7 pple were picked from the bowl of poker cards compiled earlier. And they had to play a game. They hafta count 1, 2, 3 and so on one after the other. The catch is, You can’t say numbers that are multiplication of 7 (ie 7, 14, 21 etc…) not numbers with 7 in them (ie 17, 27, etc…) Instead you hafta replace with AXA. So the first person who got it wrong will be eliminated and given the 7th prize and so on.

It was fun lah… but i wasn’t picked… :(

1st Prize – $1,088 CASH

2nd Prize – $1,000 travel Voucher

3rd Prize – $800 travel Voucher

4th Prize – Star Cruice Voucher

5th Prize – Nintendo Wii!!!!

6th Prize – $600 CASh

7th Prize – 2N Stay at Orchard Scotts Residence

BONUS PRIZE………………..

A Rolex Oyster – Unisex watch. *faint*

The CEO picked one card and Leng2 called the HP no on the card. Well… it was NOT me. haha

Its ok… everybody will get a prize. AT LEAST $50 voucher. That’s something aye.
